Captain Marla, Captain Maria & First Mate José
Mohawk Maiden Cruises was created in 2013 when Marla Hodge and Maria Saavedra purchased the authentic Sternwheel Paddleboat Caldwell Belle from Captain Bob and Marie Foster of Champlain Canal Tour Boats. Living in Albany at the time, Marla and Maria initially thought they would be bringing the boat to the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, hence the name Mohawk Maiden Cruises. They quickly realized the Belle was in the perfect spot on the Champlain Canal, so instead they, along with the third member of the MMC team, their son José Hodge-Saavedra, moved to Schuylerville to run the boat. A few years later, they added their first pontoon boat, the Mohawk Maiden. This year, they are introducing the third vessel in their fleet, the Mohawk Maiden Too. While the Belle is for sale, she is currently still available for private cruises and dockside events.
Directions from the Northway
Take Exit 14 bearing right then turn right at the first light. Follow this road to the next light and turn right. Follow 29 until you get to Schuylerville (approximately eight miles). At the lighted intersection of Routes 4 and 32N, turn left and drive approximately 1/2 mile. Turn right at our sign. Our parking lot is on your immediate left once you turn off Rt 4 - if you cross over the Lock bridge you've gone too far.
Once you've arrived in the parking lot, the boat will not be visible due to heavy foliage. Walk north towards the light blue building at the end of the peninsula. The pontoon boat will be on your left just before the building.
